A SLICE OF LIFE OR THE CRUMBS OF EXISTENCE

Short film animation

16mm B/W 15mins 4:3

review:

'Using a faded, grainy monochrome aesthetic, Janet Merewether's stopmotion images of the minutiae of
daily life attempt to piece together the crumbs of her existence. The beautiful, emotion-wrought images and
the lyrical, but painful soundtrack crystallise into a
superb cimematic investigation of truth.'
Brisbane Int. Film Festival 1994

synopsis:

A diary form, black and white portrait of Paris, incorporating animation, pixellation and live action.

'I do not cut my life up into days, but my days
into lives, each day, each hour, an entire life.'

Seven days, seven moods, seven lives. The
romantic myths of Paris are deconstructed, and
a vision of the city reformed through the
fragments of ritual, memory, rhythm and
the minutiae of daily life.
